For those of you who do not know at this point, this year is the 1000 year anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf.
Needless to say, I will be joining some of my friends from Med-Ren (as well as other reenactment groups from around the world) to take part in the event of a lifetime this April in Dublin.
Last weekend was a training weekend (mostly for the combat side of things) of the event.
Leo, Michelle, and I went nonetheless to meet/make new friends and get a better idea of what to expect in April.
The first day took place in St. Anne's PArk (where the actual event will largely take place in April) and it was dark and wet and cold, so Leo, Michelle and I went to the cafe with Kurt and some others to craft a bit and enjoy the hot cocoa... we crashed at Ian's place that night--he was quite kind to take us in after our plans at the hostel fell through.
That night we went to Club Hell. O'Reilly's pub turns into a club each night--Club Hell--A metal bar with a cool/gothic interior and (nicely priced) drinks.
It was a blast!
The next day was in Swords, like the training weekend was last semester...though gratefully it was indoors this time.
Kurt, being his amazing self...and possibly going a little mad with amount of pouches he has to make in preparation for Clontarf and Flags... |
Huzzah for more hair braiding!
Michelle had some hair-scrunchies in her bag...but they were pink and sparkly... that was no problem!
Piggie-tails for the win!
oh, right, and there were shenanigans with make-up as well.We were originally going to go for a war-paint kind of thing...but the whiskers won out in the end |
I do believe a lot of fun was had by all!
We all stopped for food at the Old Schoolhouse before heading home.
curry and fajitas and chips, oh my!
Waiting in the Dublin Airport to catch our bus back home...
Leo braided my hair again... |
Panda is nalbinding a pouch for Leo and Michelle is...being fabulous.
This was an amazing weekend!
I am even more excited for Clontarf in April!
