Panda apparently hosts pancake parties at his house occasionally. I think this should become a thing...Hey Stefan, Greg, Autumn, Alex--I am looking at you! ;)

Today (Tuesday, Oct. 1st) There was a protest that started on campus and moved out...Sadly, it was starting at 13:00 and I had a lecture to attend right then...blah.
I did get a shirt and a bazillion buttons though--if anyone wants a button.
This photo here was where folks were gathering to head out--a large crowd that only got larger! |

The protest was by Union of Students in Ireland

I pull this directly from their site:
POLITICIANS were warned today (THURSDAY) that any attempt to target students in the upcoming Budget will cost them their seats.
Students revealed that they are launching SERD (Student Elector Registration Database), a national student voter database which will ultimately allow them to marshall and influence hundreds of thousands of votes in constituencies all over the country.
At the launch of the Union of Students in Ireland’s ‘Fight For Your Future Now’ national campaign today, USI President Joe O’Connor said the new student voter database which USI is developing will instantly match student votes to constituencies and local TDs.

1)The student maintenance grant has been cut in the last 4 consecutive Budgets in either the rate or threshold.
2)The average level of the grant is now €84 per week, which compares negatively with the lowest rate of Jobseekers’ Allowance at €100 per week
3)The gap between the increasing cost of going to college and student supports available continues to widen, placing an enormous burden on vulnerable students and families in affording third-level education
4)The rate of youth unemployment in Ireland is currently at over 30%, and rises to 45% amongst young graduates with relevant degrees
5)On average, more than 200 people per day emigrated from Ireland in 2012. Over 120,000 people aged between 15 and 24 have emigrated in the past 4 years alone. 57% of Irish students now feel they will have to emigrate when they finish their degree.
What are we fighting for?
1)We’re fighting to protect the Student Maintenance Grant and student supports like the Back to Education Allowance in the upcoming Budget 2014
2)We’re fighting for the Government to create a National JobsPlan for young people and invest heavily in the European Youth Guarantee
What else can you do?
1) Sign up to SERD, our voter registration database (at vote.usi.ie)
2) Share your story with your local TD on deardeputy.ie
3) Contact your local TD directly to let them know you and your family will not stand for being targeted any more
The National Day of Action is tomorrow October 1st. Please come out
and join our student protest. We will be gathering between 12.15 at 1pm

Oh. And today, apparently the Gov. back home shut down... I have my opinion, but does anyone care to comment?
