Why is it, whenever you are learning a new language, it seems the first word you learn is always "pen"? We were just learning how to say "hello" and "goodbye" and the next order of business is "pen"--not, "where is the bathroom?" or "I would like a pint of Murphy's"or even "Can you help me, I am lost"---nope, we learned the all important word "pen"...

This is Saint Fionnbarra (St. Finbarr's) Cathedral. It is pretty easy to see its spires when walking around the city, so it helps to navigate and give one a sense of direction when many other buildings may look the same. On Wednesday I have a class field trip here--so expect some more photos then! |

This is Queen Mary's Fort (I could have that name wrong!) hidden behind this other building. I was told it was made of wood, and it was burnt down, so those living in the city were made to re-build it out of stone... |

So we went to the Nightmare Realm... I am normally not one for haunted houses, but this one was pretty good! There was something for everyone: zombies, giant snakes, the T-Rex sound from Jurassic Park, and yes. There were spiders. It's worth a go--especially if you have your student card on you because then it's 6 euro off the ticket price--there are no refunds though so go the night you buy your ticket! After the Nightmare Realm I went to the Porterhouse to wait for those still going and hopefully see Sliotar playing. Sadly, the notice on Facebook was a bit misleading as they were playing at the Porterhouse in Dublin. There are only 3-4 Porterhouses I know of, but it was not in my luck...maybe next time! |

The graffiti around Cork sometimes is just really cool street art--I may walk around the city one of these weekends to show all the cool/pretty ones! |

This is hanging right in the middle of City Centre. Cobh, or Queenstown, is where the Titanic last made port before she left on her last voyage. When I was in Cobh, my camera died... but I did get to see the Titanic museum and the ticket booth and the last dock the passengers went on...our tickets for the tour looked like tickets for the Titanic and at the end of the tour you got to see if your person lived or not and what happened to them, much like the Holocaust Museum back home.

This is the Court House. It is always on my walk from campus to the City Centre, and it a great navigational point. |

A view of City Centre so folks know what it is I am talking about...I still need to get some pictures off of some other cameras that show the English Market and some other key places in town. |
There is a guest lecturer tonight talking to med/ren about viking ships and things, but I have another class at the time of the event :(
And now for a day of classes and yet more rain! Oh, a fun thing to note--one of my friends has a smart phone, and apparently there is an app and a special event going on (that may be over now) called "When it Rains it Pours". With this app, if it rains a certain amount that day you may claim a free pint of Murphy's! and this is Ireland--it is always raining! How cool is that? :)
