It's time to play 'catch-up' with the past week's events, so buckle-up!
There are all sorts of fund-raising events all around to be involved in!
It made me happy to see many equality flags around campus as well ^_^
Because of R&G week there were plenty of booths and kiosks around with food, coffee, cocoa, knick-knacks,etc.
Leo, her friend Anna, and I got felafel--om nom nom--made me think of Lanie...
Every day there was some new main event--this day it was some competitive basketball in a bouncy castle-thing apparently. we also had Gyro-chairs, 3D immersive video games...I am sure there is a list somewhere.
This is a picture from the Irish Examiner from the 'Nearly Naked Mile' run... |

the gyro-chair... |
There was rock-climbing on the campus buildings too--I saw this and whipped out my camera, but I have a bad habit of forgetting my memory card in my laptop when uploading photos--by the time I got the card back into my camera there were no more climbers :( |
I went back to St. Finbarre's for a fourth (or fifth?) time to give yet another tour of the place. If ye ever find yourself in Cork, this is one place I suggest you see!
As we were perusing the gifts and postcards by the front desk we heard a noise--a click and then a sort of whoosh of air--it seemed. It was so sudden we thought it might be some sort of air conditioning system... We even voiced our confusion, "it's not raining is it? It was so sunny just a second ago". And we meant a second ago, we had just looked outside. As we walked out, another man was walking in. He kindly held the door for the three of us and said,"it's hailing out there girls. Welcome to Ireland--we're the land of many seasons--maybe not many reasons, but many seasons."
And indeed, it was hailing. We stood under protection of the cathedral doors for a few moments longer to collect our stuff. We got out umbrellas and stuffed our hair into hoods...and as soon as we were set to venture out into the wet, it stopped. As quickly as it had begun.
Which was well enough, because it made way for some nice photos later and a pretty sunset!
I would put this on a postcard if I could--it summarizes Cork quite well I think--you have the River Lee, the houses/storefronts lining it, and St. Finbarre's Cathedral set against a rainy yet beautiful sky.
Maybe I will frame this picture for my wall when I get home...
yet more random graffiti found in town...
When I was in the candy-shoppe I saw this wall with fizzy-drinks. It makes me smile to see these sodas and all the sugary breakfast cereals in the candy-store!
(plus, the A&W soda reminded me of home and my brother)
We met yet again at Buttercup Cafe...
...and have been making our own pizzas for movie nights--watching musicals and introducing each other to ones we haven't yet seen--we've so far gone through Jesus Christ Superstar, Oklahoma!, Sound of Music, Into the Woods, the Lion King, and other movies such as Galaxy Quest.
Michelle and I finally went to the Cafe next to the post office on Sunday's Well Road on the way to the Music Department building...
There, we got tea (in fancy china cups) and toasties with pickle-relish,cheese, and other yummy-ness.
We felt so fancy, enjoying the sunshine and all the cute puppies and babies walking by. It was like a scene from a movie.
Speaking of puppies, as part of Disabilities Awareness Week there were guide dogs in the Student Center!
Look at him! He's so FLUFFY! I love 'em ALL.
This one felt like pure cotton fluff...
...and he was basking in the sun (and all the attention)
I know I have posted pictures of owls and birds of prey on this blog before--remember the post about how UCC is secretly Hogwarts? (I still think it is and you can't convince me otherwise) |
For any of you who don't know, I have a thing for owls...
He kepts bobbing his head, like he was listening to Bohemian Rhapsody...^_^
Leo, Michelle, and I went back to the Cafe by the old post office where we had had tea and toasties before and got some fresh bread, mulled winter fruit punch, smoked salmon pate, and honey Dijon mustard for part of our dinner.
It was quite a spread, I was quite impressed with myself ;)
Here is part one of this past week's shenanigans!
